Bay Village Kitchen Remodel Spotlight

A Kitchen Remodel in Bay Village

Looking to perfect their forever home, our recently retired couple turned to the experts to create a more functional and elegant kitchen.

Through strategic changes and proper planning this kitchen went from barely functioning to the pinnacle of convenience and comfort matched perfectly to their lifestyle.

With a wish list in hand, the design team at Odell wasted no time in creating the perfect space that Leslie and Mark would cherish forever.

The Kitchen Before

Here are 7 changes that drastically changed their kitchen:

1.An OVERALL aesthetic update

The desire to create an overall aesthetic update allowed for fun and unique selections that truly made the space feel like their own. Being in their forever home, the couple didn’t feel pressured to pick the “safe” option, creating a truly beautiful and unique space. Taking advantage of dual tone cabinetry, bright and calming colors and a backsplash that speaks volumes throughout.

2.Maximize space within An existing Kitchen footprint

While the existing footprint of the kitchen was plenty of square footage, the space seemed cramped and small making cooking feel stressful. A few strategic changes such as placement of the refrigerator, and moving the stove effectively created work stations opening up the space making it the favorite room in the home.

3. Additional Kitchen Counter Space

Because the kitchen was crammed into one small room area, the counter space was limited and proved unusable. More counter space was added in the empty space making room for strategic stove placement. This drastically improved the existing footprint. In addition, creating a drop zone by the refrigerator made a convenient space for putting away groceries or finding ingredients for the next meal.

4.Create more functional cabinetry

The old cabinets were falling apart due to age, leaving the opportunity to really have some fun with customization. Some of the upgrades include…

  • Soft close hinges make a world of difference in ease of use.

  • Pantry space near the refrigerator set the stage for creative cooking.

  • Pull out drawers to maximize organization.

  • Under cabinet lighting to set the mood and provide individual task lighting.

  • A custom cubby for the microwave to keep the counters clear.

  • Wine storage near the stove for easy access while cooking.

5. Make better use of space

Unused space near the entryway allowed for the expansion of the kitchen without knocking out walls or adding square footage.

6. Match flooring throughout the first floor

Previous replacements and remodels left the kitchen flooring different from the rest of the home. Here the flooring was matched throughout for an overall feeling of composition.

7. Add More Storage

The lack of a pantry created an awkward food storage situation. Once the stove was moved to the opposite end of the kitchen, it opened up space to create a pantry and helped to develop an organizational system.

The Kitchen During Renovation

Kitchen Remodel: the Finished Product

This is a perfect example of how strategic changes can make a big difference. The kitchen effectively uses space without expanding the footprint or taking over other rooms within the home. In this instance, the space was adequate and exactly what the couple needed to fit their lifestyle.

An upgraded color pallet of blues, browns and subtle greys make for a timeless appeal while utilizing the current trend of two-tone cabinets.

With all of theses useful and beautiful upgrades, what’s not to love?
