Tell us about Yourself:
I started working as a designer at Odell Construction in 2019. Before working at Odell, I graduated from architecture school and worked at various architecture firms in the Cleveland area. I used my design expertise to create unique spaces for commercial and retail architecture before making the switch to residential architecture. I and my 8-month-old Cavapoo reside on the west side of Cleveland where they enjoy walks in the Metroparks!
What Color trends are you seeing in 2020?
There are still a lot a neutral paint colors on walls but I am seeing more and more bright accent colors like emerald green, yellow and magenta/pink. These colors can really make a beautiful, bold statement and add to the aesthetics of a room; whether it's a piece of furniture, a rug paired with colorful pillows, or a backsplash tile in a kitchen!
What Interior Design trends would you be happy to see go in 2020?
Floral patterned wallpaper, I have seen some instances where it can work but I personally am not a fan! I like flowers, just not all over my wall.
What advice do you offer those who want to design a space that will not go out of style in a few years?
I think keeping the design simple as far as the floor and wall colors. For example, neutral colors or something that isn't just a fad at the moment. In my opinion, wood floors and light walls will always be in style and then you can easily swap out furniture and decor as the trends come and go to get a fresh look without having to paint every time. As far as a kitchen and bathroom, I think being more adventurous when it comes to wall color and backslash tile because those can easily be updated in the future, but keeping it simple for the cabinets and counter tops.
What advice do you offer a person who doesn’t know where to start when designing their space?
It can be overwhelming designing an entire home or even just a single room. I think the best advice is to think about how you want to feel in the space. Do you want to feel relaxed, engerized, excited, warm? There are so many different emotions that go into designing a space it's not just about how it looks but how it makes you feel.

Tell us about yourself:
Design has always been in my blood. Its been a common thread of happy since as long as I can remember. It emerged when I was in grade school, entering every drawing and art contest I could. I would look forward to staying up late at night to draw, I loved a blank piece of paper and all my pencils and colorful markers just sitting waiting to come alive. I even used to sell crocheted hats to my girlfriends between classes. So I guess I was always an entrepreneur as well. It all seemed to come easy to me because it never felt like work, it was something I loved more than anything else.
What trends are you seeing in 2020?

What Trends would you be happy to see go in 2020?
A color trend I’m happy to see go is gray walls, white trim or the ‘spa’ look. I’m excited to see more splashes of bold statements. Natural trim, wood around doors, windows, & stairs continue to take the stage. Warm color palettes, rich wood tones, mixed metals will also continue to prevail. Soft lighting in the form of recessed cans, under cabinet lighting, inside cabinet lighting, and soffit lighting can transform a space and make it inviting.
What advice do you offer a person who doesn’t know where to start when designing their space?
When considering a redesign of your kitchen, bath or living spaces, take note of what you like. Are you attracted to a Farm House style, peppered with raw metals? Do you like the elegance of midcentury woods and rich metal finishes? Do you like some old mixed with new? Do you have a favorite color you’d like to experiment with? (Consider that walls can always be repainted to get exactly what you’re looking for). Think of interior design like fashion. You can still wear last year’s slacks and skirt, but can change the look completely by adding a leather belt or a brightly colored blouse or sweater for texture. It’s all about updating with details to match the modern trends.

What advice do you offer those who want to design a space that will not go out of style in a few years?
The most important rule when considering a major remodel is to keep the design classic so that it will look fresh for 20 years to come. The secret to accomplishing this goal is to not personalize the space too much. Resist making too much of a statement with cabinetry and layout. Save your statement for wall color, art, lighting and furniture. These can easily be changed over the years.

Tell us about yourself:
I started my career on Cleveland's West Side as a freelance artist and stayed that way ever since. I got my start with a colleague of mine when we worked on a joint project at the Great Big Home and Garden Show and converted a 2,600 sf barn into a home. From there we were known as the Design Duo and the name just kind of stuck. We worked together for 20 years until she retired. I now work as a solo designer.
What Color Trends are you seeing in 2020?
Most designers are saying that gray is moving out, but I see it sticking around. Grays and pops of color such as emerald green, eggplant, mustard yellow and midnight blue.
What home Trends are you seeing in 2020?
I'm seeing a lot of painted cabinets. Greens, blues, and blacks, gold hardware, and quartz instead of granite. In 2020 you will see less subway tile and more encaustic (printed) tiles. Other styles of tile I'm seeing are the arabesque shape, chevron, and 3x6 or larger stacked glass.
What's In: Brushed Bronze Hardware, stainless steel appliances, reclaimed wood and "raw" edges, faux fur accents, velvet upholstery, and LED lighting.
What Design Trends would you be happy to see go in 2020?
Simple and clean is in, clutter is out. I'm glad to let go of faux plants, microfiber fabrics, mirrored furniture, cherry wood cabinets and millennial pink.
Other things you will see less of are microwaves over the stove and you will see more hidden appliances.
Rose gold hardware is also a big one. It's really hard to design a space around one piece of rose gold hardware, but when all the hardware is rose gold it's just too tacky.
What Advice do you offer someone who doesn’t know where to start when DESIGNING their space?
Start with one room at a time. Collect images of rooms you like and make a mood board. Always start with the floor and design from there up. When selecting the floor, try to keep it consistent throughout as many rooms as possible.
Next, start to collect paint samples and take them with you when looking for fabrics and furniture. Never select the exact paint color first as it will be very difficult to select the rest of your home around it.
What advice can you offer someone who wants to design a space that will not go out of style in a few years?
Keep it clean and simple, remember that less is more. Learn and understand what you can live with for a long time and keep your counter tops clean and clear of clutter.
When designing a home I always use the 60%-30%-10% rule. That's 60% of a neutral color, 30% of a well blended secondary color, and 10% your chosen accent color. Neutrals should be on the walls and main areas of the room, the 30% is furniture, and the 10% should be accessories that are easily replaceable when needed. This will assure a timeless design that will change and grow with you.

What trends are you seeing in 2020?
Definitely more rich and saturated tones. Deep navy blue and emerald green are beautiful, also dusty pink and peachy coral. Grays and neutrals are still very popular, but I think we're seeing more bold pops of color than in previous years.
What Interior Design trends are you happy to see ending in 2020?
Shiplap, all white kitchens with stainless steel appliances, and totally neutral rooms with no accent or bold colors to break it up and give it personality.
What advice do you offer a person who doesn’t know where to start when designing their space?
Start with making a list of what is working and what isn't working in the space. Then prioritize by need - what will make the biggest impact in how the room functions or looks? Also, talk to a professional - we do this every day and can offer a wealth of information to help clients make choices that are best for them and their budget.
What advice do you offer those who want to design a space that will not go out of style in a few years?
I get asked this all the time. Everything goes out of style, that's just the way trends go. The only way to prevent your design from GOING out of style is to choose items or style elements that are ALREADY out of style (in a good way!) - ie - vintage, antique, eclectic. If going full vintage isn't the look a client wants, incorporating those elements into a new design will give it a timeless appeal!

Warm neutrals, cotto colors, and the Pantone color of the year – all the blues!
What Interior Design trends do you wish would end in 2020?
We know the industry is on board with doing-away with the white kitchen… we’re okay with that too… just don’t banish all the beautiful white stones that we love with that movement!
What advice do you offer a person who doesn’t know where to start when designing their space?
Get inspired – maybe its via Hamilton Parker social media, Instagram or the latest issue of Elle Décor – then connect with and trust in an industry expert. We love to help our customers explore and create – it’s our job and our passion!

What advice do you offer those who want to design a space that will not go out of style in a few years?
Aim for a cohesive design, this means that all the elements work together and nothing overcompensates to speak to fads or hasty selections. There is nothing wrong with bold style or loving a new trend, but ensuring it’s only part of the bigger picture leans towards a lasting design.

Tell us a bit about yourself:
I began welding almost 30 years ago and it is a passion that has grown and progressed in that time. My chosen materials in metals pushed me to create the unexpected with them which made furniture design an intriguing challenge to me. It made me really think about how to present these traditionally raw masculine materials into something with beauty and purpose. I’m always evaluating the how and why of things so that I can keep progressing and evolving.
How can a unique piece play on the elements of home design?
A unique piece can simply set your home apart by originality. Having a one of a kind piece of furniture can not only be a perfect fit for your needs but also easily become a conversation starter.
What materials blend well together?
The two materials that work great together are wood and steel. The steel can offer strength and clean lines in a minimal package, and the wood can give it a warm feeling with lots of texture.
Any other advice you can give to a home owner on incorporating creative pieces in the home?
My advice to someone thinking of a custom piece of furniture is to ask for help from the designer of your choice. We are all here to help you design, fit, and make a piece that is generational, not disposable.
What is your favorite unique and inspiring piece you have created, and how does it fit within the designated space?
My favorite piece in my collection is the cradle credenza. We designed it to have storage space in drawers as well as just open space. This makes it perfect for a bar, record collection, or book storage. The height and openness of the piece makes it light and airy, fitting well in any room.
